Signing up and Starting the Search

As far as starting out goes, MyTrees makes it easier for you than most of its competitors. All you need to do is provide the usual details–your name, location, email and password–and you’re all set. Because the service provides a free basic account, you don’t need to enter your billing information or choose a subscription plan before you gain access to the site and its contents and features. In fact, if you’re just planning to browse through or search for something in the MyTrees archive, you don’t even need to sign up.

Full Access for Free

You can also get a free 31-day full access trial if you create or upload a family tree that has at least 15 families and 60 separate names. It’s worth trying, if only to sample the subscriber-only features, such as: the option to view extracted records and book search results, access to notes and submitter information for all family trees in the MyTrees archive, and what MyTrees calls “Every Family Search”. The latter gives you an easy way to go through the site’s full archive for information that may be related to each and every relative named in your family tree, all at once.
