Perks and Features
Even if you’re not a Glam Bag subscriber, you can go to the ipsy site and their social media accounts and participate as a community member–although subscribers get the full experience, as a sizable portion of discussions and content centers on Glam Bag offerings and tutorials based on them. Each month community members are encourages to share their tips, tricks, own makeup looks and videos through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
Apart from its focus on community, ipsy is at its heart a curation engine; and that shows not just in their subscription service, but also in their periodical giveaway promos, online store (ipsy Offers) and exclusive discount deals on the month’s Glam Bag contents (Brand Offers). ipsy works with a vast array of makeup, face, hair, skin, and body care products and brands–from the new and trendy, to the road-tested and well known. To name a few, they have items from: Clinique, CoverGirl, Urban Decay, Lancome, Mac, Maybelline, Nyx, Kerastase, Nails Inc, and Neutrogena.
Each month, you will be able to preview your Glam Bag’s theme together with the complete list of products that will be included in it, weeks before you get it. Once you get it, you can try out the products for yourself and even be guided by video tutorials created by the ipsy team. It’s also important to leave product reviews on the site if you’re Glam Bag subscriber, as these will help ipsy curate your future bags.
What You Get in Each Bag
Prior to completing your account, you will be asked to answer a series of questions pertaining to your physical attributes and fashion sense. You’ll be asked to specify skin, eye, and hair color; as well fashion and beauty preferences, ipsy stylist preferences, brand and product preferences, and others. This, along with your product reviews, will help personalize your Glam Bags and ensure that you get items that match you best.
After you get past the waitlist (which you can circumvent through social media shares and/or successful ipsy referrals), you’ll start receiving Glam Bags every month. Each Glam Bag is a stylist makeup pouch containing five deluxe sample or full-sized beauty products (anything from makeup and skincare, to hair care and nail care). On average, the value of each Glam Bag is about $53–over $40 more than the monthly fee.
Pricing and Points
ipsy has a single subscription tier, with two payment options: $10 month on month, or $110 for one year prepaid. Take note that both plans are under an auto-renew policy, which you can cancel anytime.
As a way to encourage activity on the site, ipsy also has a Points and Rewards system that’s open to Glam Bag subscribers, waitlisters and even community members. You can earn points by doing various things on the site. You get 100 Points just for joining; 250 points for referring a friend who signs up within 24 hours; 10 points each for following ipsy stylists on Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube; 10 points each time you check early and get a sneak peek at the contents of your Glam Bag for the month; up to 15 points for each product reviewed; and 10 points for reviewing your entire Glam Bag.
You can then use these points to purchase a bonus product which will be included in your next Glam Bag. Do take note that this system is available only for US and Canada residents aged 13 years old and above–just like their shipping limitations.
ipsy has a fairly informative help page that contains answers and solutions for common questions and concerns about subscriptions, waitlist woes, billing, shipping, products and customization, points and rewards, ipsy offers, brand deals, giveaways, and the community. If you wish to contact their support team directly, you can do so via sending them an email, which is provided on the site. You can also get the latest news and offers by following ipsy and ipsy team members on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube.
What's the Verdict on ipsy?
ipsy Review 2020 – Conclusion
ipsy consistently puts out a pretty exciting curated pack of products for their subscribers for such an affordable subscription cost. The service also doesn’t stop there, as their dedicated team of makeup artists and stylists can help you unleash the full potential of your tools via their video tutorials; which you can then show off and discuss with the rest of the ipsy community. That said, the waitlist system is a bit of a deterrent to signing up; although the easy way to circumvent it, plus the general affordability of the subscription and the points and rewards system more than make up for the hassle.
