Pricing and Features
When you access the Themes section from the Pixel Union website, you can immediately choose from the different platforms that they offer to find the right theme you need. Check out all their Shopify, BigCommerce, WordPress and Tumblr based themes at the click of a button or choose the option for a custom theme from this company.
Once you’ve chosen the platform you want to get a theme on, you will be presented with all the available themes Pixel Union carries. You can click on any one of them to get more information about the theme such as features, release dates, updates and reviews from other people who have purchased the same theme. You can also access a live demo of the theme to see how navigating it feels and if it is what you want your website to look like. The price of the theme is also available and you can go right to purchasing it. Pricing for the themes varies and starts at around $40 to up to $200 or more.
Features of each template include social media links designed to make it easy to link to all your different social media pages; Share Widget, which lets people share your posts on their social media pages; and even an integrated Flickr feed. Customizable elements allow for a more personalized web page with variable post sizes, customizable headers, infinite scrolling and other display options to make for a better experience on any browser or any kind of devices.
Build A Custom Theme
Aside from providing pre-made templates, this company also helps brands turn their ideas into beautiful digital products. If you do not find any of the templates on Pixel Union to be to your liking, then you can get in touch with them so they can create a personalized theme for you. All you need to do is fill out an online form on the Pixel Union website.
First, tell them about the product you want to create so they can do their best in trying to meet all your expectations. Then choose the budget range for this project, either less than $20,000 or higher than $20,000. You would then have to choose what platform you will run the website on, such as BigCommerce, Shopify, Tumblr, Weebly or WordPress. Lastly, you will give your Name, Company Name, Email Address and Website URL then wait 1-2 business days for Pixel Union to get back with you for your project.
Customer Support
The main customer support option offered by Pixel Union is the knowledgebase on their website. You can browse the different articles or use the search engine to find articles about specific topics you need help in. If the solution to your problem is not on the knowledge base, you can send in a support request by filling out an online form and waiting for an email reply. Their operating hours are from 10am to 6pm PST on weekdays. You can also connect with them on social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. There are no hotline numbers, direct email addresses or even a live chat feature for Pixel Union, unfortunately.

Bob is right, PIXEL UNION SUCKS!!! DO NOT BUY their themes for the following simple three reasons:
1. Their themes are shoddy and not worth the high price tag (as Bob noted).
2. So when their crappy theme does not do what it is supposed to do and there are the inevitable issues, as Janus noted above, there is NO TELEPHONE OR LIVE CHAT SUPPORT. I have just been through a horrendous 3 week experience with them to fix 2 minor issues (which they initially tried to claim were not their fault, outrageous) and they stubbornly insisted on doing it purely by e-mail despite the fact that this communication mode clearly was not working and that I was being increasingly frustrated as their customer.
3. Shopify does not support third-party themes well – sure, they sell them, but the fine print is that when they are issues, Shopify’s support is patchy and inconsistent at best, and in my case did not help to resolve the issue any faster.
Pixel Union sucks. They completely robed me. I bought a theme and I couldn’t even change the font. There goes 180 bucks down the drain.
Hi Bob,
Pixel Union’s themes differ–some themes’ fonts can be changed, while others may not (or may be more difficult to pull off). You might want to check their Support page and find the section dedicated to the theme you bought. Under each theme section are manuals that can help you with regards to customization (including changing fonts, if your theme supports it).
Hope that helps! 🙂
