SmugMug: Now With Flickr
Last April 20, 2019, SmugMug announced that it was acquiring Flickr, a long-running online photo management and sharing site that previously operated under Yahoo. So far, SmugMug and Flickr seem intent on staying separate entities despite this new deal.
In a FAQ about the deal, Flickr clarified that, as of April 2019:
- There are no plans to merge SmugMug and Flickr.
- Current Flickr users will retain their accounts and stay on the Flickr platform.
- Photos/data uploaded to Flickr will retain Flickr URLs and not be moved to SmugMug.
- Flickr retains its membership structure, including Free accounts and Premium subscriptions.
- Flickr logins will be separated from the Yahoo infrastructure in future, and existing users will get to choose how they want to log in going forward.
There have been no announced changes to either SmugMug or Flickr’s operations yet. However, Flickr will be shifting to SmugMug’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy umbrella (away from Yahoo’s) by the end of May 2019.
While both services have signaled that they have no plans to merge, it’s reasonable to expect deeper integrations between SmugMug and Flickr in the future. We’ll update this review as new announcements roll out. Stay tuned!

Horrible customer service…I am still waiting, after 3 days for them to figure out why I cant upload images.
I am an artist who does acrylic on canvas. I am looking for a website, as well as, a place to sell my work. You seem to have both. I see that If I only purchased the portfolio package, I would not have access to a lot of the services, ie: coupons, gift wrap, my logo/brand. Am I correct on that? Those are all very important to me. Also, since I am not a photographer. What key words should I use to direct people to me. There are also no reviews of the quality of work that smug mug produces. What is your feedback on that as well. I am definitely wanting to know that my customers are satisfied with their order.
