Pricing and Features
Free Plan
As previously mentioned, you can create an account in PowToon without any cost. All you need to do is register your email address and choose a password. You can also link your Facebook or Gmail account to log-in, and you can start making your project by clicking on your account and giving appropriate permission to PowToon. This free plan allows you to use their PowToon editor to create videos of basic quality and resolution up to 5 minutes in length, enjoy 100MB of storage, export creations to PDF and PowerPoint, add animated charts and graphs, and use 46 different royalty free songs, and 16 styles. Take note that this plan displays the PowToon watermark and outro.
Paid Plans
If you want to have a little more meat to chew on, then the Pro Plan is a worthy consideration. For $89 a month, or $19 a month if billed annually, you can make PowToons with the watermark and outro removed, with maximum length up to 15 minutes, get 2 GB of storage, full control over the privacy settings, high definition quality and resolution, download your videos as mp4, collaborate with other users, use 88 royalty free tunes and 24 styles, and receive 24/7 priority support.
Now, if you want everything that PowToon has to offer, then the Business plan is what you want. For $197 a month ($59 per month when billed annually), you can have all the features from the Pro plan, with upgrades like 10 GB of storage, full HD quality and resolution, unlimited royalty free music and styles, a maximum length of 60 minutes for HD and 8 minutes for full HD videos, and commercial rights for your creations, so you can use them for marketing and related purposes.
Pay-Per-Export Pricing
As for their pay-per-export pricing, the features for the paid plans are exactly the same as with the Pro plan, but prices are based on the number of videos that you export from your account. Here are the prices:
Bundle Type | Price Per Export | Total Price |
---|---|---|
5 exports | $18 | $90 |
10 exports | $12 | $120 (instead of $180) |
25 bundles | $8 | $200 (instead of $450) |
They also have special offers for educational purposes and enterprise-level use. You may want to visit their website for more information about these.
Bring More Into the Presentation
PowToon does more than just help you create videos to communicate and showcase specific topics to your audience – their platform is designed to be informative and really shine the spotlight on the subject matter. Their templates are constructed with a professional feel, complete with scripts that can help you get your videos ready in just a few minutes.
You’ll find a variety of categories like Training and Tutorials, Employee Related, Sales and Marketing, Product Related, Explainer Videos, and Announcements. Each of them has a recommended structure, with each scene offering a relevant template. For example, under Sales and Marketing, 7 scenes are suggested: giving an impactful intro; making a statement; describing a problem; illustrating the benefit; presenting a solution; presenting a call to action; and giving a quick outro for a final impression. Of course, you can go with your own style and choose not to follow these pre-determined structures. Then you just need to edit the elements of the template to make the content your own. This is where you can give a brief description of the products and services and provide pertinent information to entice your audience. You can also add animations, sound and other effects to sustain their attention.
Unfortunately, this is also where PowToon’s weakness lies, as their platform heavily relies on their templates, and you really can’t go crazy with the designs and styles. There also isn’t any option to upload your own clips and make the videos more personal with real-life images and videos. This is why PowToon is a great editor for presentation videos and a decent PowerPoint replacement, but not for filmed video editing. Nevertheless, they do provide a better way for you to create more attractive presentations. In other words, the improvement PowToon provides over boring slides and graphs is pretty significant.
Customer Service
PowToon has a knowledgebase section where you can find articles on getting started, using the editor, publishing and exporting, payment and billing, and many others. You can use the search toolbar at the top of the page to quickly browse through relevant articles related to your keywords. Getting in touch with PowToon’s support team is no challenge, thankfully. You can simply send them an email and they will respond to your message ASAP. You can also follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ for the latest news and announcements.
What's the Verdict on PowToon?
PowToon Review 2020 – Conclusion
PowToon still has a long way to go before becoming a top-notch online video editor. While you can make a decent presentation using their animated templates, you are restricted to using those only, which aren’t even highly customizable in the first place. Their rates are also hard to justify, considering that other tools sit at a more affordable price while offering a more diverse set of video editing features. That said, they do make the process really easy and hassle-free, good enough for anyone who would like to make their video presentations more interesting and immersive than just throwing several slides on the screen.
