Pricing
If you are looking at the price for a starter package at Linode, it will be around $10. They offer four basic plans – all billed hourly, but with monthly caps ranging from $10 to $80 per month. Aside from these, you can get larger plans – as powerful as 120 GB and 20-core CPUs if needed.
Their storage capacity and their servers’ RAM are great for the price. You might even be able to sneak in a free upgrade if you keep an eye on their site for long enough. I don’t want to start any rumors, but there are a lot of free things you can get from Linode if you’re willing to work for it and talk to the staff. They’re a great bunch of people.
Security and Uptime
Linode has had some troubles with their security in the past. Eight accounts that were apart of Linode had their bitcoins hacked and stolen in March 2012. About 40,000 bitcoins were stolen from these accounts at the time. However, they have since addressed their security concerns and taken improvements seriously. Linode now has two-step authentication for all their processes, alongside other improvements that have dramatically changed the security landscape of their company.
Outside of security concerns, everything else about this company seems to be stellar. They have the usual 99.9% uptime guarantee.
Customer Support
What truly makes this company unique is their approach to customer service. Most of their support tickets are closed within 5 minutes of their submission. That’s a fantastic turnaround rate – with most other services on the internet, you would be lucky to get a support ticket answered within 24 hours. Quick responses are all the more important in the world of hosting, because a lot of potential problems can get costly in no time. Just imagine an online retail business that goes down for an hour: you’d be losing not just the value of your hosting plan, but also the money you could have earned through retail sales.
What's the Verdict on Linode?
Linode Review 2020 – Conclusion
Linode is a web hosting service definitely worth recommending to developers and businesses, small or large, thanks to its custom hosting packages that can suit just about anyone. Beyond that, they also allow you to upgrade your server’s features. Deployment is pretty fast. Though they may lack a control panel, and their pricing may not lure in customers who are on a budget, the quality of their service more than justifies the price.
